I would like to explain my work on the basis of three components:
1. What is my message to the viewer,
2. How do I convey this message and
3. The process through which I create the link between the viewer and myself.
1) Although there are no human figures to explore in my work, there is a clear link to the human being in all its complexity. A human being wears a long history with him. Every experience is colored by the foregoing. The transparent or opaque layers in my work refer to these experiences. Each layer shows signs of previous layers and includes pieces of life that are trapped inside. Sometimes these traces and pieces of life come to the surface and determine how the surface looks like, sometimes they stay hidden underneath but there always remain indelible traces.
My work is about perception moments, everyday moments like hands that are touching, stepping in a hot tub, the first bite of excellent food, the smell of your favorite flower … Every moment brings a sensation of simple enjoyment that I try to seize and capture.
2) To achieve this, I search balance between chaos and harmony through an abstract set of symbols, shapes, lines, texture and color. Just like in real life, I look for a balance between all that comes up to me. My intention is to compensate for everything we have to process every day, by the beautiful moments that make everything right. I seek the beauty in the chaos. In a world full of pain, aggression, fear and doubt, there is still an abundance of beauty. It’s up to us to see that beauty. My work reflects the tension between these experiences.
3) My work is created by the process itself not by a pre-established plan. It’s a growth process and each step is important and well-thought, and takes a long time sometimes. By adding new elements, the existing balance is deranged and tension arises. With each layer I seek answers and I will add things to obtain a new equilibrium. Sometimes unanswered questions remain in the final result.
